Did You Know:
The average American only takes 3,000 to 5,000 steps a day.

Everyone's body is a little different - what works for one person may not work for another. What is universal is the need to move - so get out there and get fit!

Fit Tip:  INCREASE YOUR DAILY STEP COUNT

  • Take the stairs instead of an elevator or escalator.
  • Park farther away from your destination...but be safe. Always opt for safety over distance.
  • Take a stroll to your colleague's desk instead of sending an email.
  • Use the restroom farthest from your desk.
  • Chores like mowing the lawn and grocery shopping all add steps to your daily count.
  • Carry lighter loads to and from the laundry room - helps your back, too!
  • Walk in place while washing the dishes.
  • Nice day outside? Turn off the TV and take a walk! Visit a park or walk a hiking trail.
  • Set up regular routines with your spouse, neighbors, friends, family members, or co-workers to take a short walk before work, at lunch time, and/or after work.

Fit Tips:  NUTRITION

  • Drink up to 8 glasses of water a day - keeps you hydrated and helps cleanse your system (and your skin).
  • Eat at least three meals a day - smaller portioned, more frequent meals during the day can increase your metabolism.  Add fruit to your breakfast and veggies with your lunch.  Make your fourth meal a handful of almonds and a cup of yogurt to tide you over till dinner.
  • Variety is the spice of life when it comes to fruits & vegetables - Strive for 5 servings of fruits & veggies...the more color variety on your plate, the more well- rounded selection of vital nutrients to energize your body.
  • Use smaller plates and bowls with meals - smaller portions means fewer calories.
  • Eat slowly. Why rush? Take your time to enjoy the taste of your food...and give yourself a chance to realize when you are truly full. Listen to your stomach and don't rely on seeing a clean plate to stop eating.
  • Don't eat past 7:30 PM.  If you do, snack on a small salad or a handful of veggies.  Better yet, drink a glass of water!
